Shimon Peres has been a hero of mine for the past 35 years. However, the insights provided in this book had me admiring and respecting him even more. I think it should be required reading for all who have even a passing interest in the creation of State of Israel. It is not scholarly, but instead puts a human face on all that is Israel, and written by a poet. More importantly, in a time when we are lacking principled leadership around the World, especially here in the U.S. and Israel, for that matter, he is a prime example of moral leadership in challenging times. If only the world had more leaders like Shimon Peres, we would be much better off. It is a wonderful read that leaves one in awe. I strongly recommend.
I normally read with pen and paper so as to recall ideas that seem important to me. However, Peres's story was too interesting to put down so as to write.It seems to me that in the Epilogue Peres was unable to look past ethnicity if not race to imagine a world wherein everyone first appreciates each fellow citizen as they are where they are. Peres wanted Israel to be the instrument or channel of peace.Only when a person demonstrates individual dissidence against civic integrity may statutory justice be called on to maintain mutual, comprehensive safety and security.The preamble to the U.S. Constitution tacitly offers fellow citizens individual happiness with civic integrity. It is understandable if Peres never seriously considered the U.S. preamble's offer to fellow citizens: So far, fellow citizens have not created the evidence that the U.S. preamble's agreement can aid the establishment of a civic culture.
This book is sensational. Shimon Peres was quite an unusual and profound leader. There are many lessons to be taken away from reading this wonderful autobiography. It will be the ultimate treasure in your library.

This reading has provided us with so much information about historical facts, that we cannot stop through its contents until the very end of the book itself. He described himself as an optimistic person, but was also the type that pointed to the right direction with sharpness and certainty. How brilliant was his guidance and experience through complex subjects, always taking the right decisions, and leading to success. It certainly serves as a guide to all of us, no matter how or where we live.
Shimon Peres presents fascinating details of an incredible life that is an inspiration to all of us trying to find a way toward peace in an increasingly hostile world. Highly recommended!
