As a former student of Dr. Lyons, he did not disappoint in his most recent work on Ezekiel. Lyons' deep love for both the prophets and textual analysis/comparison are unavoidably contagious to the reader. The work itself surpasses the mere "introduction" as it is described by helping the reader to get a deeper understanding of the context of the book of Ezekiel (even dabbling into the psychological and anthropological relevance to the exiles themselves). Lyons helps the reader see the distinction between the various target audiences for the book, going from its original recipients of the sign-acts themselves, to the written text we find in our Bibles today. Lyons also demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of the scholarship on Ezekiel by juxtaposing various interpretations of key themes and passages that are not widely agreed upon and exposing the stances that are most likely accurate from a textual standpoint. Overall, I highly recommend this book and guarantee that you will both learn and laugh throughout the pages.

Lyons has produced a readable introduction to Ezekiel that accomplishes being thorough and clear. It would be great for the Seminary level or even advanced undergraduate students. However, it is clear enough for those with a casual interest in biblical studies.
