I read this book with my man-child who is grammar school age. It was long but it had funny points that kept his interest. There were a few morals to this story, although downplayed, that hit home for me. Greg was a money hungry young man. He was talented with a gifts of art and creativity and a knack for making money and a niche of marketing to his classmates. Maura, one of Greg's classmates had a similar passion and knack. The conflict of the story was that they both wanted to use their creativity and money making technique to the same niche. As the story progresses, we see these young people learn to work together. We also see the development of entrepreneurs. The author also illustrates that as we become adults we tend to lose our imagination and our ability to dive into our dreams. All in all, I believe this book is a great read for young people, I give it 4 stars.
I love andrew clements writing style and love how it relates to school stories. I was so excited to read this book after reading the endless best booksellers such as frindle, average and several others. I think this book was pretty good, but had the potential to be great. It was pretty interesting except for the fact that andrew clements always leaves readers on a question or weird thought without any sequel to that book. Overall, andrew clements is a talented writer whose books I would recommend to young readers.

Greg is a kid who likes comic books, but the thing he LOVES is... Money. He likes making money, selling stuff and more thing about money. Greg starts making and then selling comic books. They are big hits, but his nemesis ruins everything. Greg is funny, but a lot of people say he is greedy. This is a really interesting book. It was really fun to read. I recommend this book a lot.

This is a great book that presents rather detailed discussions of money concepts in a way that is entertaining to my fourth grade sons. Andrew Clements is an excellent author who teaches through riveting stories without ever talking down to his audience. He also avoids some of the baseline potty humor that pervades kids' lit today. This book, like others of Clemehts' that I have read with my sons, has a timeless air about it. Highly recommend.

This very well-written book goes through the steps of the conception, planning, and creation of the illuminated manuscript. The subject matter is one that could have the potential to be dry and boring, but the author does a wonderful job of educating the reader about how these manuscripts were made, anticipating the readers questions, providing context, and including interesting and exciting stories that relate to the subject.My only wish would be that more of the interesting facts were illustrated with pictures. There are many great photographs of manuscripts, but sometimes the author will describe evidence that particular techniques were used and it would have been wonderful to see examples of them in a photograph. The book leaves me ready to look for more and eager to learn more about the times in which these manuscripts were made.
A handy volume for those interested in the basics of illuminated manuscripts.

This well-researched book made me aware of the world around me on so many dimensions. It is a business book with compelling stories and facts, admonishing readers (with a positive tone) to better see and manage the macro and micro dangers around them.The Gray Rhino, a unique species of rhino created for this book, is a powerful metaphor for our life’s decisions in the face of obvious threats. The image of a two-ton animal about to charge at me was enough to take note of Michele Wucker’s experiences, stories, and analogies.The framework, influenced by Elizabth Kubler Ross’s five stages of grief, outlines the stages of response to a threat from a Gray Rhino: denial, muddling, diagnosis/bargaining, panic, and action/trampling. The author does an artful job sharing stories about business, weather, the economy, aging infrastructure, and health scares, among others.While examples like climate change, the global financial crisis, and recurring cyber security threats demonstrated the downside of denial, I quickly saw broader applications for the model. Career choice and career management, for example, are riddled with denial and muddling (kicking the can down the road). Just like the stories about collapsed bridges and data hacking of companies like Sony, there is the parallel story for individuals who ignore the debilitating effects of staying at the wrong job.With a starting point of situational awareness, the model is an effective analysis of how to identify a looming problem, while offering concrete suggestions to take action.

Having read the book, I see them everywhere. Yet the message is ultimately one of optimism. Wucker presents a plan for recognizing and avoiding the many gray rhinos threatening us on a global level, in business, and even our personal lives. Let's get this message out, and learn to be rhino spotters.
The clearest wake up call I've read. From my perspective this is a must read for Americans who care.
Wucker has done her homework! The Gray Rhino is full of examples, case studies and stories of "dangers ignored." But beyond that, it includes smart and tangible advice on how to stop ignoring and start facing the dangers we avoid. I particularly liked the ideas on "muddling." That section reminded me that not only are rhinos gray, but so is life. Facing danger and possible trouble won't make everything perfect. Nothing does. But reducing denial and avoidance leads to fewer disasters, better collective outcomes, and a better life. Who doesn't want that? Read, reflect on and practice this book.
Has good data. I thought it would be more of a "page-turner" but for me it wasn't. I'm keeping it to refer back to some points.

Munari has no need of me to explain why this work is a classic. So many of us have used it as a guide to teaching and it was a resource from grade-school to University and wonderful just for raising aesthetic consciousness in non artists.He was a born teacher, a gifted artist, a wonderful designer - and a kind and amusing person.

Buy this book! Doesn't matter if you're a designer, anyone artistic will benefit from this book. The chapters are short; they're more monographs on a wide variety of subjects. Mostly, Munari makes you think. Have you ever realized that a car is mobile sculpture?
Bruno's got some good ideas; I liked that he gave a little setting of a Japanese home and talked about his work. Sometimes he goes off on some tangents, not bad but can get a little heady. Very funny guy, very good designer.
Writing in a smooth yet profound way. The book has many chapters, which make it easy to read. I read it in airports and planes (a long trip) and it kept me laughing, it has a fine dose of sarcasm, and learning, Munari doesn't take art and design issues lightly but he remains the best example, other than Italo Calvino himself, of the six principles for literature. I learned more about design and art in those sheets than anywhere else.

I was really excited to read this book after reading Zoo Nebraska, but was overwhelmingly disappointed. While the author's love for the animals that lived at Zoo Nebraska is clear, I don't think anyone did a basic proofread of any of this book. There are random question marks in places that could not conceivably need question marks. There are no commas where there should be commas and commas in places that definitely don't need commas. There are multiple sentences that have words in the wrong tense or just random words that seem to be left over from a previous version of the sentence. I have never written a review of a book on Amazon before but had to write this one to save others from this rambling, mistake-riddled nightmare.
To say this book is wonderfully written would be an understatement. It is powerful as the author’s emotions punch though almost every page. Reuben, a long term captive chimpanzee’s animal rights were violated for years before even the basics of animal companionship were provided.This is an animal story with some very strong differences. There are fantastic examples of chimpanzee interactions and stunning examples of human and chimpanzee bonds. There is love, joy, hope and despair. However, it is one true story where evil does triumph over good...but hey this is the 21st Century.The ending is harsh, horridly sad and so wrong. The most deplorable event is that many of the innocent are killed in the most dreadful of ways. But yet the Jensen family who put this American tragedy in motion were never committed to an asylum.I’m waiting for the movie.
A poorly written book that appears to be fueled by her personal gripes, or grudges against the Nebraska town that deported her & her husband back to British Columbia Canada . I was surprised to read her written admission to criminal activity in the book, because I had heard previously of the Bakken's exploits while they worked in America. I had bought the book as a heart touching animal story, but found it to be propaganda material to try to justify their poor Zoo practices, and greed motivated activity. I probably won't be buy this authors material again.
A beautifully told story that attests to the unfortunate nature of how animals are often treated as commodities in our society.
The sensitivity and insight with which this book was written is amazing. The story is often sad and sometimes funny, however, I'm sure very truthful!

Same great guide I've been buying for years. Unfortunately, the pages are very flimsy now. I don't think this is going to hold up long being carried around in my pocket at work day in and day out. We'll see.UPDATE: It's eight months later, and I must say my fears about this falling apart quickly were unfounded. The only reason I still don't give five stars is I feel they could have done a better job with a more up to date and comprehensive medication index. As with previous versions, I still see medications that are listed by both their generic and trade names, but others only listed under one or the other. Also other medications that just plain aren't present under either name. Given that this is one of my most common uses for a field guide after so many years in EMS, I think this is a failing. I realize "there's an app for that" but I'm old school.
I'm currently a paramedic student approximately half way through class when I purchased this ALS field guide. There's a lot of stuff in the guide that is really "dumbed down", such as what to call in for a patient report, but there are other things in the guide that are very useful that I can see myself referencing on a call such as the burn chart and glascow coma scale. It goes into the types of medical and trauma calls and what to do and what questions to get answers to, which I can't see myself using too much, but at the same time if I have an extended transport with a patient experiencing abdominal pain or chest pain I may reference it real quick to see if I left anything out. It also goes into different types of illegal drugs and their effects and street names. The section that I use the most is the drugs we carry on the trucks. It gives the indications and contraindications, as well as the side effects and doses. It also has a chart for different drip rates for some of the meds and the dosage per the patient's weight. It also has a full section for pediatrics and ACLS. The final section is on prescription drugs and what they are used for, which could help you to determine a patient's past medical history if you're not familiar with a medication they're on. My only issues with the guide are that some of the information is not current with our local protocols, which I understand it isn't going to be 100% perfect for everyone, and also that some of the outdated information on pages was just covered up with a sticker featuring the current information rather than adding a new page to the guide. So far I mostly use this while in the ER after finishing with a treatment on a patient to further understand why we gave the patient the medications we did. I would recommend it to any paramedic student out there. I also know of a few paramedics who carry it with them as a reference.
A review is not needed. Anybody that actually works EMS knows these field guides and probably has several lying around as new versions come out with new ACLS guidelines. If you work an ambulance or emergency department you probably have this one or the critical care version in your pocket. EMT-Basics and 1st Responders have the BLS version.
This thing is awesome. I've been an EMT for a while but bought this towards the end of paramedic school. It has everything I need. It's a great resource to know I have available to me if I need it. It of course has all of the ACLS and pediatric sections and drugs we use, but one of the parts I like best is it has a section to look up patient drugs and gives a brief description of them. It's had just about everything I've come across so far.
I really like the format of these pocket guides although this one in particular turns out to be more advanced that I was hoping for. As its titled, this one in particular is more suited for an EMT or EMT in training. As with the other pocket guide I've purchased (home), these are easy carry and navigate. The two that I've purchased both have the boiled-down version of many medical emergency situations and topics - CPR, childbirth, you know. The layout (tabs on bottom) as well as color coded instructions are key in helping you find what you need fast. These also appear to be the most recent and updated methods for dealing with CPR for adults and infant/children.
My husband is an EMT and I got this as a graduation gift. It has really great information, and is good quality paper. He knows someone who's had this exact book in his pocket for 13 years and takes it on every ride. So if you ever get in a tough spot, pull this up for a quick refresher! You won't be disappointed.
I purchased an older version of this book 10 years ago when I was in Paramedic school, and it's become my main-stay resource for when I'm in the field or in the Emergency Department. This edition includes the "new" ACLS updates and a nice LOOONG list of prescription medications.The two sections I turn to most are the Glascow Coma Scale (because we have to document a GCS on every patient) and the Rx listings. It's small enough to easily fit into my BDU thigh pocket, and light enough to not be a burden.I've also used this extensively when I'm working in the Emergency Department, particularly on some of the less-common but critical medications, like dobutamine or epi drips.The pages are moisture proof and tear proof, and are designed to take a licking! I have had earlier copies slowly have their plastic spiral binding break off, and usually have to buy a replacement every 4 years. But by then, "standards" have changed and enough new Rx meds are in the field to justify an upgrade to a newer edition, so it is time to get an upgrade anyway!Buy it. Use it. Love it.

They appreciate it and it provides better patient care which is the very most important thing! I was and EMT-IT but I worked in the Emergency Room and everyone was able to benefit from the handy flip book. Sometimes we tend to forget the 'other side of the coin' and we also need to be as prepared as we can be for the best care for our patients.
