Not worth buying. Book came in good condition, just the info isn't anything worth buying or reading.
First, I’d like to say I have no doctorate in child behavior and the only expertise I can actually share in raising a child/children is my personal experience with my own.I was first introduced to this book by my child’s pediatrician. They recommended this book b/c there were some serious attitude that had me concerned about my child at 18 months old. He would throw some serious fits to the point that he would develop a petechia rash on his face; he’d hit, bite, and pinch. I have no idea where he learned these awful behaviors from and I’m not gonna lie ~ it terrified me. I didn’t want to raise that kind of child, nor did I want to have that ‘kid’ in daycare. I wasn’t into the idea of spanking him. I felt that would just escalate the violence that he was already lashing out with.So, after reading the book and careful consideration, we tried this form of discipline.I’m not going to say that this book is the end all to bad behavior, nor is it some magical solution with raising a willful, stubborn child. My kid is almost 2 ½ yrs old, he is still constantly pushing his limits, and testing everything, and everyone. I’ve probably read this book once but I have refreshed/skimmed thru it several times in the past year. With saying that, idk if I’m in love with this book or if I just like it. My son still lashes out occasionally, but on less of an occasion that he did before. I’m giving it some more time, b/c it seems to be working… via the long route. But, who ever said that raising kids would be easy and full of short cuts?While I do believe that every parent will have a different child with a different personality, this method might not be for everyone. But for us, right now, this is the method that we have chosen to go with and it seems to be working.I also have downloaded and keep a summary pdf that I’ve found online of this book on hand for reference for baby sitters as well as family that I leave my child with.I’m not sure if I’m allowed to leave this link here but if you google csgreeley.org 1 2 3 magic summary a pdf will come up – it’s 8 pages long and I feel like it’s the best way to make sure everyone that watches my child is on the same page as me. If they have questions, I encourage them to ask and even read the book.
There are some great ideas in this book. The parts about not getting emotional while disciplining are great and counting is also a good idea. The part where I really took issue is about locking your child in his room, even if he is trashing the room (not to mention, the book never addresses how to get the child to clean up the trashed room, it just says not to talk about things after the time out). In trying what this book suggested, my take away was to use a different technique for the time outs. Making a child stay alone while he cannot self-soothe is really not a good idea. I'm not sure if this is meant for older kids, but this was not helpful for a 2 1/2 year old.
my mom always counted with me when i was a kid so i recognized the topic before reading the book. this goes into more detail like how long to wait between numbers, what to do if your child won't stay in his location after getting to 3, what is a countable offense vs. what isn't negotiable, etc. i actually started counting before finishing the book (never did finish) and 98% of the time my kids respond by the time i get to 2, so to agree with the author, this is super simple yet really does work, at least in my case.
This is NOT another touchy feely parenting book. I've read all those and they don't work for a strong, independent 4 year old. This book worked the second i started implementing the 1-2-3 tactics and I don't have to yell anymore! My daughter takes me seriously now! My husband and I don't fight about discipline because he sees this work with very little effort. LOVE this book. Read it today, you won't be disappointed!!
Our little girl is passionate and has a hidden fury inside of her that gets released as soon as you engage. This book has helped me learn how to diffuse her stop (read: challenging you to a show down) behaviors with just a few counts. For her, time out is the first level of discipline with the follow up being a time out alternative of her baby dolls serving her time.. way worse for her! But either way it's really working and quickly. What to pair with this is just solid sleep and making sure you stay ahead of their hunger. That multiplies her fury by x1000.
As I read this super chill guide, I absolutely saw myself in almost every example of what not to do for your kids in helping them to become independent, successful members of society. No matter how hard I’ve tried, I’ve pretty much become the mom I never wanted to be: a frazzle-haired, screaming-from-the-other-room, spanking-without-discretion MOM-STER. I have created tiny critters aged two and four who scream and yell and kick and hit and whine and cry. I have negotiated with tiny terrorists for the last time! No longer will I waste our lives being angry and feeling out of control. I will listen, I will encourage, I will praise, and I WILL COUNT!The text was plain, entertaining, and effective. The graphic stories were spaced perfectly and emphasized the text. I will be recommending this book and technique to any other MOM-STERS who reach out to me for help!

Over time they will stop disobeying on the first strike. The key is no negotiating and not even getting angry, just saying 'that's one' very calmy."
This book is awful!!!!!It was recommended by our counselor. We now see a new counselor too.I get setting limits. I also get counting and not giving in. But I also have compassion. I also want my kids to feel they are being heard and that it's ok to be upset, it's just not ok to be mean or disrespectful when upset. And this book doesn't teach that. It teaches that when you act in a way that I dislike, I'll make you go away. No matter how upset you are. No matter what happened. No discussion. No help working through emotions or reason.

Serope Kalpakjian is a professor emeritus of mechanical and materials engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago. Eugene Merchant Manufacturing Textbook Award of SME. He has conducted research in several areas in manufacturing processes; is the author of numerous technical papers and articles in professional journals, handbooks, and encyclopedias; and has edited several conference proceedings. This book was required for my Materials and Manufacturing Processes class and is the only reason why I purchased it. This book is terrible at teaching concepts and information. The book gives almost no examples on how to use any provided equations and figures are always placed far away from any text explaining them, making it difficult to completely understand graphs and tables, which form the backbone of some chapters. The questions at the end of each chapter ask questions that the book never explained or sometimes even mentioned, making the internet or other books the only possible way to answer them. If the book did cover the question, chances are the question is worded in a way that makes the answer in the book seem like it isn't answering the problem; it's not that I'm not applying my reasoning skills or anything, it's just that the questions and text do not match well at all. Unless this book is required for your course, stay away from it.
Got this book for a materials processing course I took last year. I still come back to it whenever I need a reference for how a manufacturing process generally works.Detailed descriptions were given so that if I wanted to know more about any given subject, I would know what terms to search for on the Internet.
The book has typos and mistakes throughout. The tables, many of which are used in the chapter problems, are imprecise to the point of being almost useless. Indeed, some of the answers to the problems are incorrect. I had to use Wikipedia to figure out why some of the problems were not coming out and it turned out to be because the questions gave faulty information. This book sucks. Find something else to use for your Engineering course. Pearson should be ashamed to publish this.
This book is not worth the money it costs. It hasn't been proofread from its last edition very well, still referring to old diagrams that aren't renumbered in their proper order. Also, most of the questions it asks for homework actually require that students get the answers online because they don't even address them in the book. Also, there are typos on several equations they report in the book. This can give the students confusion on which equation is actually correct and provides inconsistences in the math the authors exhibit in their examples. Upon looking at some solutions in the solutions manual, it expects students to somehow know they are not incorporating friction when the book doesn't even specify to do so. Overall, it does not seem that this book was well thought out. It seems that it was just put out quick in order to have a new edition from which to make money. I would not recommend this as a textbook for any class.
This book can not be read in the middle. It was taped together incorrectly and cuts off the inside inch of text. My son needs a book that can be read.
Good book. Very detailed. I get more out of reading the book than I do from the in-class lectures. My only complaint is that some of the homework problems are a little unclear as to what they are asking for.
The book was easy to follow and not boring, at least in my opinion. I will most likely be using it in the future for recalling information.
i used this book for MIT qualifying exams and it was a good overview. it covers quite a bit in terms of processes...and not very mathy. a few errors in there, but good reference overall.doesnt deal with lean manufacturing or six sigma type stuff really.this will break your back if you have to carry it around while studying (like i did).

It's not often I say this but this sequel was way way way better than the first book. It's based in Mya's pov and it made literally all the difference. There was so much more character depth in this one than in the first, found myself understanding why the characters were acting a certain way and why it mattered. I loved the relationships between Mya and her sisters, and brother and felt it was more fleshed out. Though I liked the relationship I didn't like her brother Chev, he kept talking of putting the clan first and sure that sounds great as long as it doesn't make you a horrible person. Also his friend, enemy at the beginning, I never felt he was actually redeemed from his actions because...jerk! The romantic moments were super cute though and I'm ended up happy with the ending overall. Kol spent most of the book sickly but I didn't really care, compared to Mya he's dull. I will say there were a whole lot of deaths in this book and I won't spoil them I will say I didn't care. I know that sounds awful especially when you read it and find out who died I just wasn't attached to the characters and didn't like some of them. Mostly it was a fun book, I liked the story, easy to read through without emotional attachments that make some books to heavy. I still like the prehistoric elements and find it different looking at like before civilization and guns, making due with the ability of your own hands.

I am sad to leave this fantastical world behind, but I am in love with how both stories were a perfect balance to each other. In Ivory and Bone we are told the story from Kol’s perspective, and the fascinating part is we are listening to him tell the story of how he first met Mya to her for the majority of the timeline. In Obsidian and Stars, we are moved forward in the timeline and now experience a new story from Mya’s POV. Mya isn’t telling us the story like Kol did, which I loved, but I still devoured every page. This is just one part of what makes these books so original, but also that it is technically prehistoric fiction but written in the most poetic, contemporary voice.Mya had a very mysterious and closed off attitude in book one, so I was so curious to see how I would feel about her now. From the very beginning you can still feel her struggle of reconciling her grudges while knowing she was in love with Kol. Mya is determined and selfless. She would do anything for her family and her clan. She has put them above herself all her life, and now when she finally wants something for her, she again puts it all on the line in hopes of bettering her family.I absolutely love Kol, he is passionate and smart. My heart was so heavy for him. He knew Mya was the one for him, but he never expected to deal with all this intensity at the start of their budding relationship. Kol wears his emotions on his sleeve and is the complete foil to a closed-off Mya. I hate that he has been dealing with so much love and loss, but it seems this is the way of life for these clans.Without giving away too much, I can tell you that this book is bloody. There are epic battles with mammoths, with clans, with the elements, and within themselves. I couldn’t stop reading, the exciting plot combined with the most beautiful prose. As much as I am sad to let these characters go, I feel complete after finishing Obsidian and Stars.This is truly an epic romance, set in prehistoric times, where life and death is the core component, but you have to remember that love conquers all. I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves an alluring world filled with elegant writing.

I am completely captivated by the setting of these books. It is so original. I’ve never read, or even heard of, another book set during this time period, and I am so impressed by the level of creativity that Julie displays not only in the premise of the story, but in the execution of it as well.When I first reviewed Ivory and Bone, the first book in the series, I gave it a four-star rating. After finishing Obsidian and Stars though, I went back and bumped it up to a five-star, because in reading this book, I feel like I was better able to grasp the real brilliance of the first book as well.Julie has such different approaches to the telling of each story. In Ivory and Bone, Kol narrates the story using second-person pronouns. This isn’t something you see done often in literature, and it is something that has to be done with such skill in order to pull readers in, but in that book it truly feels like Kol is telling us a story, bringing it to life and making readers feel as if they are Mya. It’s absolutely beautiful and so impressive.In Obsidian and Stars, the POV switches, and we get to see this story from Mya’s point of view. I very much enjoyed reading from her perspective. Mya is so intelligent, and she exhibits such strength of body, mind, and soul throughout the story. She is just a phenomenal female lead. And while Julie did not use the second-person pronouns in Obsidian and Stars that I so enjoyed in Ivory and Bone, she has taken a more plot-driven approach to this novel that I enjoyed just as much. This book is action-packed. There is blood, and tragedy, and romance, and it moves at a much faster pace than the first book did. I truly love them both for different reasons.One of the really neat things about these books is that they’re set in a prehistoric time period, and there are so many elements that do feel so true to the era. But at the same time, there is this overarching tone to them that very much reads like a Regency romance and is just so much fun.Julie exhibits such skill in these books. I love to see the different writing techniques she employs to craft these stories, and I cannot wait to see what she has in store for us in the future!

This book will help many professionals entering into this field. It is a marvelous introduction. However, providing a little more cultural context in this book would make this book much more valuable. For those who study its chapters and apply them, competency is possible, but a second-level book or more comprehensive one will be necessary for many seeking deeper competencies in this area. Nevertheless, it is a good resource.
This is really the only book around for what it is. Remember that although Taiwan and China both speak Mandarin Chinese, the two countries have made completely different choices about how medical terminology is translated (and Hong Kong has made yet different choices again). This book is for Mainland Chinese ONLY. Thankfully, it is also useful for Singapore which has chosen to use the same terminology as mainland China.
I would say this book is well written on the most part. My ping Ying is a little rough but I'm a native speaker so it does help that I understand the basics. There are some minor typos on the Ping Ying. Can't say anything about the Chinese text since I can't read those. I have given this book as a gift so it is a great starter book. The English is not American English when you see words like colour vs color.
I can speak Mandarin fluently, but I don't really know how to write or read Chinese characters. So the Pinyin in this book helped me in reading and pronouncing the words.

So far this book is totally dragging. This was recommended by an administrator but I’m afraid the $27 paid was a waste. All of the information can be easily found online and I am very underwhelmed. I can’t believe the amount of positive reviews but they must have received this book gratis because if anyone paid full price it’s absolutely disappointing.

Sure wish every adult could read at least some of this book. The movie is tremendous (wish it had a much bigger budget), but there is so much more in the book. I am aware that some people will not want to read a few of the graphic sections, where we see through Audie Murphy's eyes what high explosives and machine guns can do to the human body. Still, Audie Murphy takes a humble, humane approach to his service to America. Not truly looking to hurt anyone, but understands what war is, and wants to end it as soon as possible. His primary devotion is to those immediately around him, whom he protects to the absolute best of his ability, even if that means facing the enemy alone. Maturity beyond his teenage years, but I suppose that comes with being orphaned and having to care for younger siblings. Most importantly, in the heat of battle, Audie Murphy understands what "calm fury" means, and he practices it even when it would be much easier to take a different approach. It truly is unbelievable that he survived. A measure of the man is that this book focuses almost exclusively on relationships, strategies, team objectives, etc., only mentioning his personal promotions when necessary, and never mentioning the numerous honors he received. I'm very grateful this book was written and that I had the opportunity to read it. Update: I went back through the book and tried to estimate the number of US soldiers who were killed within a few yards of Audie Murphy, and it is somewhere around 400. If we include those who were grievously wounded near him, it would be over 1,000. Of his original platoon that started in North Africa, he was the only one standing at the end of the war. Of the seven officers involved in the Colmar Pocket battle where Audie earned the Medal of Honor, he was the only officer who survived. I also tried to estimate the number of Germans he killed in direct combat, and that is somewhere around 90, with a lot of them being killed in one-on-one, cat-and-mouse duels. He even volunteered to go after snipers. He went forward, when the rest of his unit was holed up or moving toward the rear. He grabbed machine guns from crews that were hiding, pulled them into the open, and took the fight to the enemy. Many times, bullets were hitting so closely that they knocked dust into his eyes. If you count the air strikes he called in around his positions, he accounts for a total of about 250 enemy deaths, extremely conservatively speaking. To say it's a miracle he lived through 3 years of this type of fighting is an enormous understatement. Even among miracles, it's miraculous. Read the book!
This book is not what I expected but I was pleasantly surprised.To Hell and Back reads like a novel with great characters, lots of action, a sympathetic main character, moments of humor, and moments of sadness, what makes that astonishing is that it is a true story and more than that it is a memoir.The reader is taken on a riveting firsthand account of some of the most fierce fighting of WWII with a humble normal guy who turns out to be an incredible soldier and war hero.The story is possibly as close to the thoughts and feelings of combat that anyone who has never been in combat can experience.To Hell and Back should be required reading for every American.
This is the true experiences of Audie Murphy at war. Yes, the shy western star of the late 40's, 50's and 60's. As a Vietnam veteran, I can appreciate what he experienced. My father was a WWII veteran (South Pacific, USMC) so I knew that in this war, you were in for the DURATION. No one knew how long that would be. Maybe into the 1950's or until there just weren't anymore men left alive to fight. It may be hard to understand that concept. He truly went through hell. It's a miracle that he lived through it. Lieutenant Murphy does not go beyond the war and the presentation of the Congressional Medal of Honor, nor does he mention receiving any of the medals he was bestowed upon for bravery. I regret that he didn't tell of the hell he experienced long after the war. But for this book, I had a hard time putting it down.
Incredible read.. If you've seen the movie - this is nothing like it. Hard and gritty talk. Tells of the deprivations, danger, fear and black humor of the combat infantryman. incredible insight to the man. Wish they'd remake the movie in the style of "Saving Private Ryan" - not the sanitized version made in the 1950's. Tremendous story of one our country's greatest hero's.
I felt lucky and yet disappointed that this movie is hard to come by on blu-ray. Lucky that I found it on this format. So... there's a really short segment in the special features on the making of this film...really nothing special, and a theatrical trailer. The movie it'self is hilarious. I've read the negatives and positives for reviews, so basically I'll leave you all with this..... it's definitely a "guy" movie. It's crass, ill humored, lots of one liners that I found giving me an ab workout with laughter. For those who didn't like the movie (which was mostly female reviews), HEY! IT'S A MOVIE FOR DUDES. You want a chick flick, then watch The Notebook.
This was not the easiest book to read. It has had a profound effect on me, though. I finished it a couple weeks ago and didn't want to review it right away. The takeaway is that WWII front line men had to essentially see other soldiers as a thing that needed to move forward. The enemy was also not a group of people; they were barriers that needed to be dropped. Rarely does the term "shot him" come up. There are so many words used besides the ultimate "I killed him." My father was an infantryman. I understand him so much better than I ever thought I could. I did keep waiting for something to happen, to read the other side of the soldiers' lives, but that didn't happen. It is grit from beginning to end. No wonder WWII vets never talked. Their battle fatigue was real. They learned too well how to compartmentalize.
audie murphy was the most highly decorated war hero of ww2, after the war he went into acting mostly low budget westerns, when he wrote a book on his ww2 service explaining how he earned all those medals,they made a movie of it with the same title as the book. he was chosen to act himself in the movie,i was surprised that he could do it,most soldiers have trouble reliving the horrors of the war. i'm a veteran and i try to forget that period in my life.he sure had guts and he could act,he seemed a natural.

I bought this as a companion piece to another same-style comic book for our Mom who is a big Peanuts fan. These books are rich in color, heavyweight paper and great size to read for a child or an adult. There are a few stories in each book and the comic frames are large enough along with large print to be easy-to-read.My mom enjoys reading them as an alternative to her computer time with her evening cocoa. She says it's easier to put down the book, than to shut off the computer or TV sometimes.This book arrived in new condition, no bent corners or covers, well-packaged and arrived quickly after ordering.
